different-structures-poker-bettingThe one thing you must understand about poker is that you can never lose an amount more than what you have with you on the poker table, regardless of the betting limit you use. In poker different betting structures are used and are discussed in this article.

The most common betting structure for Texas Hold’em is the ‘No Limit’ and is popular over all formats, stt, mtt and cash. As the name suggests in this kind of betting strategy, during any betting round you can bet anything from the minimum bet up to all of your chips.

There are also capped no-limit cash games offered by some online poker sites. In it if you wage a certain amount, you are considered all-in and you cannot bet anymore than that amount. By this the volatility of no limits is reduced.

The strategy most commonly used for Omaha and Omaha hilo games is ‘Pot Limit’. It is sometimes also used for Texas Hold’em. In this you can bet any amount up to the pot size at that moment.

If you want to call a bet at your turn, you can raise the bet by the size of the pot after your call. I case you don’t have a bet to call than the maximum bet will be equal to the total amount in the pot.

Fixed limit: Under this betting structure you can bet a fixed amount. It is used occasionally in flop and stud based games but mainly for cash games. Tournaments are also run using this betting strategy.

Usually two betting limits are set in the game. One is used during the earlier phases of the game and the second one is used for the later phase. However there is no option of how much amount to bet or raise. You can check when available, fold, call or raise.

Generally games have a limit of 3 raises. It means that if one player bets 10, next can raise to 20, the next one can raise to 30 and finally the next player can raise to 40. After that the players have the option of calling for 40 or folding.
