The ticket you receive will have 15 numbers out of the 27 available spots on the grid. On each row of 9, there must be 5 numbers and 4 blank spots.

In 1891, Sittman and Pitt of New York City developed the precursor to today’s modern slot machine. Based on the popular poker game, the machine contained five drums that carried 50 cards each. Players would insert a nickel and pull the lever in the hopes of a good hand.

I’m fairly sure everyone should have a handle on what Texas Hold’em is by now. If not, here is the brief rundown:

1) Players are dealt two cards that they must keep
2) A community hand of three cards is shown, also called the flop

4) A final community card is revealed, also called the river

The object is to create the best ranking 5 card hand out of the 7 cards available (2 of your own cards and 5 community cards).

Here is how things differ when it is just you versus the dealer in a casino game:

1) You have to place an Ante to receive your two hole cards. Remember that you have to bet at least twice that Ante in order to win on your hand.

2) In order to see the flop, you must bet double your Ante on the Flop bet. This is similar to the betting in Caribbean Stud.

3) Based upon the cards you see, you can choose to Bet the amount of your Ante or Check and not bet on the Turn bet.

4) Based upon seeing all but one card, you can again choose to Bet the amount of your Ante or Check and not bet on the River bet.

5) Your hand will be compared to the Dealer’s hand. If the dealer has a better 5 card hand then you, all of the bets placed will lose.

If your hand is better than the dealer’s hand, then there are some things left to be determined with how much you have won. Here are the rules for getting paid when you win:

1) If you receive a straight or better in your 5 card poker hand, you will be paid 1 to 1 on your Ante bet. Otherwise, the Ante bet is a push.

2) You will be paid out 1 to 1 on the Flop, Turn and River bets regardless of your 5 card hand.

Texas Holdem Bonus Poker Strategy

There isn’t a whole lot of strategy that needs to go into this game. The biggest decisions are whether or not to place bets. The best practice is to start betting $5 on the Ante. If you get garbage cards that you would throw away in a poker game, do not pay the double Ante to see the flop. (The one good thing about this game is that you get to see what would have happened anyways)

Once you bet on the Flop, you are going to finish the hand with the dealer. Unless you have made a pair with one of your whole cards, I would not bet on the Turn or River unless I had very good hole cards.

There is money to be made if you play this game right. Throwing away $5 by folding the bad hands will save you money in the long run. You want to win as much as possible when you get good hands, this will offset the folds you made with bad hole cards.

Texas Holdem Bonus Bet

There is also a Bonus Bet that you can place a wager on. This bet is separate from the actual hand being played. The Bonus Bet is based upon the two hole cards that you receive.
One note – you must bet at least $5 on the Bonus Bet.

Here is how the Bonus Bet Payout works:

Pair of Aces – 30 to 1 payout
Ace/King Suited – 25 to 1 payout
Ace/Queen or Ace/Jack Suited – 20 to 1 payout
Ace/King Unsuited – 15 to 1 payout
Pair of Kings/Queens/Jacks – 10 to 1 payout
Ace/Queen or Ace/Jack Unsuited – 5 to 1 payout
Low Pair – 3 to 1 payout

Any other two card hand is a losing bet for the bonus.
